Fortinet has announced significant updates to its NSE Certification Program (Network Security Expert), effective July 15, 2026. These changes are designed to modernize the certification structure, align with real-world cybersecurity roles, and ensure professionals stay up to date with evolving technologies.

Starting July 15, 2026, the NSE program will introduce:
Expansion from 5 to 8 certification levels
Introduction of industry-specific certifications
Continued focus on four core training tracks:
Secure Networking
Security Operations
Cloud Security
SASE (Secure Access Service Edge)
All certifications valid for two years
Updated certification and recertification requirements
Return of on-site practical exams for NSE 8
Expanded product coverage for certifications
NSE Certification Requirements by Level
The updated program introduces a structured progression model with active certifications required at each stage.
NSE 8 (Expert Level)
To achieve NSE 8 certification, candidates must:
Hold an active NSE 4 certification
Hold NSE 5 or NSE 6 certification
Hold NSE 7 certification (same track)
Pass the NSE 8 Core exam
Pass one NSE 8 Elective exam

Secure Networking
Application Security
Security Operations
NSE 7 (Architect Level)
Requirements:
NSE 4 certification
NSE 5 or NSE 6 certification
Pass one proctored NSE 7 exam in the same track

Transition Rules (Effective July 15, 2026)
Fortinet will automatically map existing certifications:
FCX → NSE 8
FCSS → NSE 6 or NSE 7
FCP → NSE 4, 5, or 6
FCA → NSE 3
FCF → NSE 1 and NSE 2
All current certifications remain valid until expiration.
